2.5D relief pigmented resin on acid-free paper
Figures In Flight (And Falling) are a series of large format works on paper that are extensions of the virtual sculpture. These pieces are fabricated by printing multiple layers of resin on paper to create a 2.5D (relief) image of the wireframe structure beneath Encounter's embracing figures.
"While wireframe is often rendered in a flat orange color, I chose an edge tone for these images that would make the viewer first see orange-red, then red-orange. The piece changes constantly, which felt consistent with the dual nature of the encounter."
"By moving the virtual camera, I capture angles of the wireframe figures which become new images in the series. 2.5D printing these pieces at scale (70”- 80” wide) is a complex process with a high fail-rate, but the scale correspond to the size of the figures in the virtual work, and the surface texture mirrors the sculptural form."
